I found a black funky frame at Junk Rescued (one of my favorite shops in Storm Lake) and thought that a tree in it’s fall splendor would complement the style of the frame. So, I sketched out an idea and got to work. Even though I have been working with glass for 30+ years, every new project presents its own set of challenges. With this piece, I thought that I had adequately visualized the colors of the leaves and sky and how they would look in the frame. However, I was truly disappointed when I held it up to the light for the first look. Ugh. It did NOT complement the frame as I had hoped, and the colors I chose were not what I had hoped for either. I have never been motivated to dismantle a “finished” piece - especially one that is leaded - but I was not at all satisfied and so the dismantling began. In order to reconstruct the piece, I opted to combine the leading process with copper foiling. It’s something I hadn’t tried before, but I am pleased with the results - and MUCH happier with the color, content, and framing of this creation!
