I found this black funky frame at one of my favorite “antiquing” shops - Junk Rescued in Storm Lake. I thought that a tree in it’s fall splendor would complement the style of the frame - so I sketched out an idea and got to work. Even though I have been working with glass for 30+ years, every new project presents its own set of challenges. With this piece, I thought that I had adequately visualized the colors of the leaves and sky but was truly disappointed when I held it up to the light for the first look. Ugh. I have never been motivated to dismantle a “finished” piece - especially one that is leaded - but I was not at all satisfied and so the dismantling began. In order to reconstruct the piece, I opted to combine the leading process with copper foiling. It’s something I had not tried before, but I am pleased with the results - and MUCH happier with the color and content of this creation!

Besides getting the color and design wrong the first time, I also misjudged how the completed piece would look in the black frame and will be going back to the drawing board to find its perfect match!
