Recently, I had four different individuals send me a photo of the same stained glass bike wheel encouraging me to do something similar. I figured that was a sign that I should indeed give it a try. I knew that neither the traditional use of lead, nor my glass on glass process would do the trick, so I delved into the use of copper foiling. I’m pleased with the results, but there has definitely been a learning curve. I have just completed my third wheel and I’m happy to report that I am doing better as far as fit, soldering and time. I’ve also learned using solid pieces speeds the process considerably without jeopardizing the beauty. The less time, the better the cost!

I should note that the angle of the spokes with glass does not allow for the wheel to spin in the wind as I had imagined. However, when hung with a “swivel” as used in fishing, the rim will rotate beautifully from a shepherd’s hook.

  • These have been very popular and I continue to make more! I most likely won’t be updating this page with new pieces because they have been selling that quickly. Feel free to contact me to see what I have in stock. I’m willing to customize colors.

  • Pricing depends upon the size of the rim and whether the wedges are solid or multi-colored. Prices range from $60 - $300 with the average around $160.
